Fort Myers is the northern end of our route, about 35 road miles from our Pine Ridge Road office at 1110 Pine Ridge Rd, Naples, FL 34108, most of it on I-75. It is the Lee County seat on the Caloosahatchee River, and its nickname, the City of Palms, comes from the royal palms Thomas Edison had planted along what is now McGregor Boulevard.
Fort Myers is a rental and newer-build city. Of its 38,364 occupied homes in the 2020-2024 survey, 19,539 are rented, 26,285 of its 48,984 homes were built in 2000 or later, and the median year is 2001, so many doors are builder-grade units on a landlord's schedule. The old core is the exception: Dean Park, built in the early 1920s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013, sits beside Edison Park and Seminole Park.
The Fort Myers airport station logs about 119 days a year at 90°F or more, against about 103 at Naples Municipal Airport, and Ian pushed 5 to 8 feet of surge up the Caloosahatchee, reversing the river's flow.
